ICE Raids Threaten Our Communities and Our Classrooms — We Must Respond With Compassion and Action
At ALL In Education, we are outraged and heartbroken by the recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and escalating attacks on Latino and immigrant communities. These are not isolated actions; they are part of a pattern of fear, intimidation, and injustice. These actions harm families, disrupts education, and targets the very heart of our communities. These actions reflect deeper systemic issues in our nation’s immigration and enforcement policies, which are rooted in decades of exclusion, racial profiling, and the criminalization of immigrant communities.
Immigrant families and communities don’t have to prove their worth, legitimacy, or belonging; they simply exist, and that presence shapes our state and our country. In Arizona and across the nation, immigrant families are students, educators, community leaders, and neighbors. The trauma caused by ICE raids goes far beyond individual households, it reverberates through classrooms, campuses, and entire communities. This disruption creates a chain reaction that undermines education and threatens the outcomes for our students and communities. When immigrant families are under attack, our education system is under siege.
WE WILL NOT REMAIN SILENT.
Our commitment is clear: Arizona schools must remain safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces for all, regardless of immigration status.
Undocumented students have a legal and moral right to learn, thrive, and pursue their dreams, free from the threat of detention or deportation.
Educators and school staff, many of whom are immigrants or first-generation Americans, are the backbone of equitable education in this state. Their safety and dignity must be protected.
This moment calls for more than statements. It calls for bold, united action:
- We urge Arizona school districts to implement protections against ICE activity on or near campuses.
- We call on policymakers to expand access to mental health, legal aid, and housing services for students and families impacted by immigration enforcement.
- We call for permanent protections for immigrant educators and school staff.
While these injustices bring pain and fear, they also fuel our collective resolve. ALL In Education stands in unwavering solidarity with the immigrant community. We will continue to advocate, organize, and mobilize. Every child deserves to feel safe in school, and every family deserves to live with dignity and without fear.
